As our country celebrates its quarter-millennial anniversary, we are launching this new enterprise. Crimson White and Indigo derived its title from lyrics of a 1989 Grateful Dead song called “Standing on the Moon”. The idea for this publication came nearly a decade before it’s official launch, as it took a while to hash out the exact mission of this enterprise. We did not want this to be another political website but rather an authentic reflection and projection of what America was, is and may potentially become.
So we came up with a strategy we call “Tom and Jerry” as the two of three main legs which will support this mission. The ‘Tom’ leg (as in Jefferson) will focus on the American idea in terms of philosophy, institutions and civic life, while the ‘Jerry’ branch (as in Garcia) will focus on American culture. As for the third leg that will be a distinct perspective centered on Generation X, the generation that straddled the analog youth of the late 20th century and the digital world that led into the present day.
